When looking for the ultimate honeymoon destination, options vary depending on your finances, leave available from work and places topping your bucket list.
However, one element is common to all honeymoon destinations no matter where you are travelling to.
It has to be romantic.
You just got married, so you’re all loved up and ready to spend your holiday tangled up with your partner. I’m always itching to travel somewhere new, and if you are like me and keen on travelling to somewhere tropical for your honeymoon, here are some great suggestions on where you can go that will suit any kind of budget.
BORA BORA, FRENCH POLYNESIA
Bora Bora is a small but highly celebrated island in French Polynesia that is absolute pure luxury. With crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches, rejuvenating spa packages and private and luxurious overwater bungalows, Bora Bora is well known to be the honeymoon destination of the world.
Bora Bora resort hotels are built on their own tiny islands and all bungalows are equipped with private decks, overwater windows and tailor-made experiences that make honeymooners feel like they are in their own private dream. With tropical jungle views and the ultimate in waterside luxury, Bora Bora is like stepping into a screensaver – you know, the one you always look at and dream about while you are at work?
I’ve always wanted to visit Bora Bora and have it on my bucket list. It is a bit exxy, so this honeymoon is definitely for those who have a bit more cash to splash, but if you want more information on honeymoon packages you can check out Tahiti.com for everything you need to know.
HAWAIIAN ISLANDS, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
The Hawaiian Islands are one of the most recent states of America and is the only American state comprised completely of islands. It is the northernmost island group in Polynesia and is made up of eight main islands including Ni’hau, Kaua’i, O’ahu, Moloka’i, Lana’i, Kaho’olawe, Maui and Hawai’i. Hawaii is my absolute favourite place in the entire world, and isn’t too expensive compared to tropical destinations like Bora Bora. With the different islands on offer, each with a different vibe and a diverse scenery, a honeymoon in Hawaii means that you will be able to find something that you like amongst the tropical paradise.
If you’re looking for a quieter and more jungle getaway, the Garden Island of Kaua’i might be for you (it was for us – this was where we honeymooned ourselves) or if you are looking for a more urban and tailor-made-to-be-a-tourist vibe you can stay on O’ahu. If you want something more adventurous you could visit the Big Island, or if you want something more luxurious you can visit Maui. There are so many options and they are all beautiful.

THE WHITSUNDAYS, AUSTRALIA
The Whitsundays is one Australia’s most famous collection of islands and is made up of many different places to visit and stay, including Hayman Island, Daydream Island and Hamilton Island. Nestled next to the Great Barrier Reef it also means that a honeymoon to The Whitsundays also allows you to access one of the Seven Wonders of the World with scuba diving tours and once-in-a-lifetime snorkelling.
Despite being so close to the largest living thing on Earth, The Whitsundays also has a drawcard in the fact that it also looks like you are living in a screensaver. Whitehaven Beach has some of the whitest sands in Australia and boasts some stunning natural landscapes of the coast and the island. With boats available to get around, it’s also not that hard to find yourself on a secluded white-sand beach – making it a popular honeymoon destination for newlyweds!
The prices are also not too bad when it comes to getting to The Whitsundays, and if you are keen to narrow down your list of places on where to stay Trip Advisor has you covered with some deals and hotel information.
Bali is one of the islands that make up Indonesia and is part of what is known to be “The Coral Triangle”, meaning that it has a large biodiversity of marine species. Bali is the go-to hotspot for Australian tourists when it comes to wanting to get away on a cheap beach break, and it doesn’t disappoint when it comes to catering for honeymooners.
Avoid the party spot of Kuta and you can find some magical pieces of paradise hidden away on the island, including luxurious resorts, legendary pools, excellent spas and some damn great food! The best news as well is that Bali is a very cheap destination to visit, and a very cheap plane ride over, so it’s an excellent destination for those wanting a romantic and luxurious honeymoon on the cheap side.
