I had a wicked sweet tooth growing up, but ever since going vegan my taste buds turned to a more savory and salty preference instead. This is apparently pretty common, but in saying this, desserts still have a special sweet place in my heart. I’m always keen to try new vegan desserts and there are some killer ones in Canberra. Check out some of these delights.
Doughnut Department
I’m a bit doughnut crazy, so when I heard about the hip new doughnut café opening up on the new No Name Lane in the city I knew that I had to check them out. Their vegan doughnuts are absolutely delicious and taste exactly like any other regular doughnuts, but the best part is the variety – you can score lemon blackberry, glazed or dusted sugar, as well as doughnut holes.

Rainbow Nourishments
Rainbow Nourishments is THE raw vegan cake provider for the Canberra community. Managed by the delightful Anthea who is a blogger, social media influencer and baker, she has wonderful blog full of how to recipes. However, if you’re a bit lazy like me and can’t seem to get to the kitchen as often as you would like, you have the chance to sample Anthea’s delights in many different stores. They’re available at As Nature Intended at the Belconnen Fresh Food Markets, and at Ricardo’s at Jamison.

Round
Previously known as Walter G’s, Round was one of the first pizza shops in Canberra to make epic vegan cheese pizzas, but the real delight comes in their dessert pizza.
With a vegan chocolate base, strawberries and bananas, chocolate sauce and sprinkled with icing sugar, this vegan version of a Nutella pizza is sure to delight those with a sweet tooth. Not sure you can fit a whole dessert pizza in after sampling their regular vegan pizzas? They also do smaller vegan chocolate covered donuts as well!

Stripey Sundae
There is nothing more classic a dessert than a big scoop of ice cream, but as a vegan, this deliciously creamy treat can be hard to find.
Luckily for us, Stripey Sundae in Gold Creek serves up the goods with their vegan ice cream and smoothies. With delicious flavours like coconut, chocolate, vanilla, caramel and cookie dough available, Stripey also offer a huge board game library so that you can spend your afternoons relaxing in the sunny atmosphere of their cute cottage.

With a huge range of flavours available including Crazy Monkey, white chocolate and macadamia, coconut and lime, cookies and cream, Jaffa and death by chocolate to name a few, the great thing about Sweet Bones is that they also make cakes to order for special events.
