There is nothing quite like stepping on stage and artfully taking your clothes off to a cheering crowd.
The art of burlesque is a diverse way for performers to enjoy the spotlight no matter their size, shape, or look and a wonderful way to celebrate the entertaining, innovative and bold striptease that brought sex appeal to the vaudeville era.
Burlesque was around for decades before Dita Von Teese brought her fame to the mainstream and now Canberrans can get a taste of it at Miss Burlesque ACT on Saturday 29 June.
A night of glitz and glamour, Miss Burlesque ACT will be divided into three sections, including The Red Carpet Parade, the Traditional Performance and the Unique Performance, giving audiences a comprehensive taste of the elements that go into a burlesque performance.
The winner of the competition will then go on to represent Canberra at the National Grand Final of Miss Burlesque Australia, so the stakes are high.
“It’s an incredible opportunity for the competitors – having this title really is a game changer!” says former winner and now co-producer Rachel Reid (who performs under the name Jazida).
“The last two people who won in Canberra have represented Australia in the US the following year.”
The opportunity to represent the ACT on the national stage isn’t the only prize. The winner also receives a cash prize of $1,000, as well as prizes from the sponsors, a tiara, sash, and expenses to compete in the National Grand Final.
Runners up receive a cash prize of $250, plus goodies from sponsors. With prestige and prizes up for grabs, you know that the audience will be in for an amazing show.
Want to be part of that audience? Tickets start from $35 with floor seats almost sold out. If you’re after an evening to remember, look into the VIP options which include front row seats, goodie bags and champagne.
